Days in the sun

After a month-long hiatus, Reason For Beauty is back! 🙂 If you have missed me during the last month, fear not – there is plenty of content coming up 😉

Meanwhile, here are some pictures from yesterday at FSO‘s summer BBQ. The weather was perfect for grilling and the company was, as always, delightful. I am glad I get to spend time with this group throughout the year and not just at OCON!

These $100-bill napkins are awesome!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend ahead! 🙂

Summer on my mind

Just three weeks ago it was snowing here, but now that warmer days are here, it seems as though Oslo has skipped over spring altogether and gone straight to summer.

There are soooo many ways to enjoy summer, both indoors and outdoors. Having my birthday at the end of May means that it is celebrated throughout the months ahead as well 😉 I hope you are as excited as I am!

Eirik and I are heading to the United States in June and will spend a week in Pittsburgh, PA for OCON. If you have not had a chance to go to OCON, I highly recommend coming this summer because it is a great investment for your mind and, ultimately, your life. The conference, held at the center of industrial America, is not only for people who are familiar with Objectivism, the philosophy of Ayn Rand, but also for individuals who are interested in living a meaningful life. The lineup consists of intellectually stimulating sessions with productive heroes from a variety of backgrounds, so I guarantee that you will leave with a better sense of clarity and purpose.

After the conference, we will head to New York, NY! Both of us have been to NYC before, but this summer will be extra special because we will experience the city together for the first time and do things we have not done before, like tour the Freedom Tower and attend a performance at the Met Opera. I can hardly wait!

What are your plans for the summer? Let me know in the comments! 🙂

Meeting of the minds

Yesterday was the Christmas party for the Foreningen for Studium av Objektivismen (FSO), the association for the study of Objectivism here in Oslo. We had dinner at Stortorvets Gjæstgiveri, a restaurant situated in one of Oslo’s oldest buildings. The ceiling of the restaurant is adorned with wooden panels dating back to the 1700s.

When the food arrived, everyone checked their phones because we had chosen our courses about a month in advance and forgot what we had ordered! I had a dinner from the Christmas menu consisting of:

Smoked salmon served with caviar, salad and pumpernickel

Roasted venison served with sautéed mushrooms, root vegetables, red onion marmalade and port wine reduction

After dinner, we continued to talk until almost 11 PM. It is so great to be able to talk about ideas with people who are interested in them – truly a meeting of the minds!

If you want to read more about Objectivism and Ayn Rand, I highly recommend checking out this (in English) and this (in Norwegian).

Enjoy your week and any upcoming parties! 🙂
