Last weekend, Eirik and I attended the Fjord Classics festival in Sandefjord, a small town located 120 km south of Oslo. Between concerts, we enjoyed ice cream along the harbour and got a glimpse into the town’s rich whaling history.
The Whaling Museum (Hvalfangstmuseet) in Sandefjord has existed since 1917 and is Europe’s only museum of whales and whaling. Its main exhibition features animals from the Arctic and Antarctic regions:
If you want to experience Norwegian life outside of Oslo, spend a day in Sandefjord. It is easily accessible via a 1.5 hour train ride from Oslo Central Station and is a favourite stop on cruise expeditions. Restaurants (I personally like Chili and TukTukThai) and boutiques are within short walking distances, so you can really enjoy yourself and have a relaxing time!
